A brief introduction of Dorje Drolod
Dorje Drolod is the wrathful form of Guru Padmasambhava, the founder of Tibetan Tantric School of Buddhism. Literally, Dorje Drolod means terrifying wrathful indestructible one. He is the best known and the most important one among the eight great demonstration of Guru Padmasambhava. Dorje Drolod exhibits one head, two arms and three eyes. The pledge and power of Dorje Drolod may subdue all heavenly or earthly devils, extinguish all devilish obstacles and cure all disorders caused by evil obstacles, talismans and charms. It may protect practitioners during meditation, so that they may not be disturbed by external and internal demons. It may cast blessings upon the power of meditation. In the mundane sphere, it increases wisdom, good luck, wealth, longevity and smooth running of all affairs. This initiation is categorized as higher tantra. This time, Rinpoche gracefully opens it to all participants in order to benefit more sentient beings. The opportunity is very precious and rare indeed.
According to the book of Dudjom New Treasure on Dorje Drolod initiations, there are the long, medium and short sadhanas to suit the different occasions. All these sadhanas had been acquired through predicted tertons. This text of initiation is unique. It is very short, most profound mind initiation. It is the foundation of Dzogchen teaching.
Having received this initiation,
- recitation of the Yidam mantra is equivalent to practicing the sadhana. - recitation of the Yidam mantra and visualizes oneself to be Dorje Drolod and evil powers and diseases will be driven away. - when one recites the Yidam mantra and visualizes oneself to be Dorje Drolod, all evil powers and diseases will be driven away.
Note : This Yidam mantra is very powerful. Please recite privately and softly. Never try to use it for other purposes. If you have not been initiated, please do not practice it impulsively. Be very very careful!
The Profound Meaning of Dorje Drolod
Dorje Drolod is also known as the Angry Vajra or the Angry Guru Padmasambhava. He is the wrathful form of Guru Padmasambhava who subdues demons. In Bhutan, at the famous Tiger Den Cave and Taktsang, he exhibited in wrathful form as Dorje Drolod to subdue the demons and negative evil forces in this Kali age. With very violent expressions, he soaks in the big flames of inborn wisdom. He stands on the back of the angry and pregnant tiger who is the manifestation of an enlightened karma wisdom dakini whose ferocity and terror know who bound. Dorje Drolod’s right hand holds a vajra, his left hand holds a phurba with black scorpions among the fingers. He spits fire. This wrathful form exhibits the energy and potential power of a practitioner. He can sweep away any obstacles on the way of the practitioners. He subdues raksasas, stubbornness and pride of the practitioners and those who have no faith in Buddha’s teachings.
Guru Padmasambhava is the second Buddha as predicted before the Buddha entered pairinirvana. Lama Dorje Drolod, the spiritual guru of the practitioners, is the crazy wisdom expression of Guru Rinpoche. Crazy wisdom or Yeshe Cholwa is a style and means of expression of the enlightened performance. With skilful means, it reveals the materialistic concept deep-rooted in the mind. When a practitioner is self-indulged with self-pride trying to occupy the mind to manipulate tactics, Yeshe Cholwa will reveal common sense to the practitioner as the wise grandparents would do. When self-recognition and self-protection try to overshadow the straightforward charges of genuine dharma, Yeshe Cholwa will destroy the mental and quotable strong hold of the traditional convention of dualism. Dorje Drolod’s phurba will pierce through temptation, aversion and indifference. His vajra will break through all external illusional expressions. This is the write-up of Dorje Drolod, revealing some implications of the superficial wrathfulness.
The meritorious benefit of Dorje Drolod
Dorje Drolod possesses great significance during that Kali age when there are much obstacles and demons disturbing the propagation of Buddha Dharma. Besides, sentient beings of this age have heavy negative karma. The protection, excavation and propagation of the cave treasure involve special attention of Dorje Drolod. A practitioner receives overall blessings of Dorje Drolod who cleanses away all outer, inner and secret defilements. The inner demons of greediness, hatred, ignorance, jealousy, pride and suspicion are tamed. One acquires the extraordinary achievements such as the rainbow body. The practice of Dorje Drolod may eliminate the negative influence of the earth, waters, fire and wind elements, subdue wild thoughts, accelerate the realization of emptiness, transform the five poisons into five wisdoms, destroy the demons of death, heavenly demons, disturbing demons and powerful demons and especially subdue those who create troubles to obstruct Buddhism.
Dorje Drolod pacifying fire puja
This fire puja dispels all demons, obstacles and bad karma, increases good health, good luck and longevity, and brings about merits, power and peace. The donors and participants and family will be free from accidents, black magics, calamities and disturbances by evil dragon, raksasas and other demons. It will eliminate curses, thieves, debtors and foes of previous lives cleanse the faults in body, speech and mind of a practitioner.
Dorje Drolod Iron Scorpion Cakra
In this Kali age, sentient beings bear heavy bad karmas, so they do bad deeds deliberately without notice. They do bad deeds through the body, speech and mind. They break precepts and samaya and enhance the evil influence of the demons, cause great harm to the sentient beings at large and the practitioners in particular direct or indirectly. Thus, sentient beings give way to all sorts of defilements, temptations, illusions and bad thoughts. So, they accumulate more bad karma. This is what the demons are happy about. In order to save the sentient beings to get away from the grip of these demons, Guru Padmasambhava concealed this set of secret teachings in the cave.
Dudjom Lingpa, the first Dudjom Rinpoche discovered this set of secret text from the cave. In one of the chapters is this Iron Scorpion Cakra for the house hold. The story goes to the ancient times. There was on discipline who ungratefully killed his master. The disciple was reborn to be a demon king and his master, a nine-legged black scorpion. Eventually that scorpion sucked the blood from the disciple’s heart and the demon king was killed. Thus, the scorpion became the subduer of demons.
Do not fold or roll up this cakra. Have it blessed, hang it up at the door way. It will protect the whole household from disturbances by the aggressive demons and evil ghosts. Warning : Use this cakra sparingly, more such cakras will be harmful to the householders. This cakra may also be displayed in the parlour, office, shop, factory, temple or retreat quarters. It must be kept clean and treated with respect. Do not despise or slander it. Be aware!!!
Dorje Drolod Blazing Flame Iron Scorpion Protection Cakra
Dudjom Lingpa, the first Dudjom Rinpoche discovered the set of Dorje Drolod secret text from the cave. One chapter had been dedicated for the protection of practitioners and eliminating disasters secret formula. Guru Padmasambhava indicated that this had been written for the benefit of all sentient beings and especially for the self-protection of practitioners. The cakra contains the protective cakra and karma cakra with demons driving, disasters eliminating and wrathful yidam mantras in Sanskrit and picture of iron scorpion; garuda and protective blazing flames. After it is blessed by the wisdom yidam, it possesses great protection power. It may be placed on the head, or worn around the neck. It serves as an indestructible armour. Those wearing it will be protected against demons, foes and debtors of the previous lives and evil spirits. It will protect one against any calamity. This is a very precious tantric cakra from the profound Dudjom New Treasure.
These have been originated form Dorje Drolod’s text. The second Dudjom Rinpoche made and blessed them. They were presented to his disciples and devotees. This know diminishes defilements and protects the bearer from attacks by charms and evil spirits. Its blessing power is very strong and very effective. One disciple wore it to the neck, he felt exceptionally comfortable and peaceful. Another had it with him all the time, his epilepsy simply disappeared. Note : It is best to wear it at the neck or chest above the waist line. Never place it in the pocket at the backside of the trousers.
Dorje Drolod Iron Scorpion Warning Scripts
This had been written by the late H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche for the protection of his disciples. It is a precious dharma articles written in the Tibetan scripts. The warning message from H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche runs like this: This is Dorje Drolod’s heart mantra, the warning message from the Wrathful One, I, Dorje Drolod, protect this place. To those who dwell here or those whose move in, be aware if you will harm, injure or disturb the people here. If you have evil intentions towards the people here, please forsake such harms. It is best to abolish such actions. Please abandon such vicious ideas. Endeavor to help others. Always help the practitioners and those good people. Assist them and protect them. Lead them to better conditions. From time immemorial, we had very close relationships for the past many lives. So, we must live in amity with each other. Cherish the bodhicitta in your mind. You must always behave and cultivate yourself in this way. If you do not listen to what I say, and you have wicked ideas, Dorje Drolod will demonstrate the iron scorpions in flame. They will such all the blood in your heart and destroy you. Thus, it is best to listen to me, otherwise, the outcome will be disastrous.
