Grand Vatsurana & Vasudharani Puja Ceremony 30.5.2003 - 1.6.2003 Conducted by : Dungse Garab Dorje Rinpoche Venue : Chinese Assembly Hall
***************************************************************************************************************************************************** The history of Vatsuratna & the main practice of the pujaGuru Padmasambhava, the glorious master of the Uddiyana and king of the dharma, due to his great realization and spiritual power, he created the conditions for the propagation of Vajrayana teachings in this world. It is universally reknowned that precious Padmasambhava took birth from a lotus flower in an instantaneous birth. It is to said that the dharmakaya Amitabaha representing the body. Whereas, the sambhogakaya form of the Great Compassion, Avalokiteshvara, representing the speech and the nirmanakaya Sakyamuni representing the mind.Due to the invitation by King Trisong Deutsen when Samye Monastery was built, Guru Padmasambhava tamed spirits hostile to the Buddha dharma and pacified negative forces, allowing for the completion and consecration of the magnificent temples of Samye. He also translated innumerable quintessence of the teachings of the sutra and mantra and advice on dharma, and also he established a number of monk communities. In order to flourish the dharma and liberate sentient beings from sufferings, Guru Padmasambhava granted the source of fulfilling all needs and desires of sentient beings by manifested into the form of Guru Vatsuratna. Guru Padmasambhava manifested himself into Dorje Drolod in order to remove the obstacles of the practitioners and also manifested in the form of Guru Menla to free the sicknesses, demons and sufferings of sentient beings. This Vatsuratna puja will be performed by Dungsey Garab Dorje Rinpoche who is the grandson of H.H Dudjom Rinpoche and of the son of Dungsey Thinley Norbu Rinpoche. Besides, Rinpoche is also regarded as the Dudjom New Treasure lineage holder. When Guru Padmasambhava finished spreading all his dharma activities, he prophesied that in future (the degenerate times), many teachings will be lost. Thus, through Guru Padmasambhava's unfailing compassion and diverse skillful means, he concealed his numerous mind teachings in land, mountain and sky for future generations. This terma will be revealed when the conditions were auspicioius and the benefit most appropriate for the people of that particular time. Henceforth, judging from the past and discerning the present, the impact of Guru Padmasambhava is inconceivable. The puja that is going to be performed is very precious and auspcious because it was the mind treasure that was discovered by H.H Dudjom Rinpoche. Many would have questioned the reason for having such a worldly practice within the pure Buddhist tradition. The fact is that many Sutras, especially so for Mantrayana (the secret vehicle), emphasize very strongly that practitioners should not have obstacles in order to practice. More often than that, the two main obstacles for a practitioner are lack of healthy or long life and lack of wealth. Without wealth, one cannot practice generosity. Therefore, the Buddha provided this skillful method for all sentient beings to accumulate wealth.Through the blessing of Guru Vatsuratna, one is able to increase the energy of accumulating both samsaric and nirvanic wealth without any obstacle. Most importantly, the wealth accumulated will be used for meaningful purposes, and will be sustainable forever. The virtuous results will also travel with one into the next life. In general, if one accumulates wealth without blessing, this wealth is accompanied by different kinds of obstacles, but with the blessing of Guru Vatsuratna, there should not be any obstacle with the wealth accumulated.
The principal deity
in this practice in ORGYEN NORLHA - Guru Rinpoche manifesting as the
divine god of wealth surrounded by the assembly of wealth gods and
goddesses. This special practice is a Mind Terma (treasure) of the
previous His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche. Special reasons and benefits
are attributed to the practice. Due to its powerful lineage blessings,
this sacred sadhana bestow swift and strong blessings in the forms of
good fortune, luck, longevity; enriching prosperity, wealth and health
in the vicinity where it is performed and also benefits those who are
directly linked to it, when it is done with deep and strong faith and
devotion.
The blessings and accomplishment of this sacred ceremony can also be received through the object of a Treasure Vase (Tibetan: Yang Bhum). This Treasure Vase which can be kept in one's home or office etc., with offerings and respect paid to it, is a source of accomplishments and wealth because it is emanation of the Deity of Wealth ORGYEN NORLHA (VASURATNA). It is very special because it contains many holy mantras/prayers, holy Dharma medicines, precious relics, as well as gemstone, gold and silver etc. The Treasure Vase is also precious because it is consecrated through the practice of the sadhana of Orgyen Norlha (Vasuratna) in the auspicious ceremony described earlier. Back to TopDispatching Serak
In the Vajrayana tradition of Buddhism, before performing a religious
ceremony which is intended for invoking prosperity, wealth and longevity,
it is very important to carry out a preparatory practice called
Despatching "Serak". It refers to dispatch the evil spirits including
hungry ghosts who constantly create obstacles to prevent righteous acts
like the showering of good luck, peace and prosperity from being
successfully carried out.
Serak is a type of mischievous spirit who consumes the potent essences of food and wealth. He personifies ultimate envy and miserable and is usually exocized during rituals to promote wealth and prosperity. According to the sadhanas (ritual/practice texts), for this practice, an effigy of a poor old man holding an empty bag, and in the begging posture must be used; he is to be surrounded by many other similar effigies of hungry beggars, all of whom symbolize the "SERAK" effigies. The "SERAK" are then invited to partake of the feast, which is blessed by Vajra Guru, with the blessings of holy and sacred mantras/prayers; all done in the motivation of great compassion and generosity. Thus, the offerings are made genuine for consumption. By the blessings of the mantras/prayers of offerings and alms-giving, all the wishes and needs of the hungry spirits are fullfilled. Subsequently, they are all despatched far away with their evil thoughts and negatives motivation of harm, along with the effegies. With the completion of this preparatory practice, the auspicious ceremony that follows can be performed smoothly.
